Prometheus Bound

Com'st thou to be the spectator of my evil
And fellow sympathizer with my woes?
Behold the spectacle?
Look down upon my shame,
The cruel wrong that racks my frame,
This grinding anguish
That shall waste my strength,
Till time's ten thousand years
Have measured out their length!
Ah me! Ah me! Fair progeny
Look on me! Look upon these chains
On rocks high-pinnacled,
Where over the abyss my soul
O divine air Breezes on swift bird-wings,
Ye river fountains, and of ocean-waves
The multitudinous laughter Mother Earth!
And thou all-seeing circle of the sun,
Behold what I, a God, from Gods endure!
(The scene closes with earthquake and thunder, in the midst of which
PROMETHEUS and the DAUGHTERS OF OCEANUS
Sink into the abyss.)
