I Have An Island

I have an island a place I go to think
where the artificial stars help suspend my disbelief
so I stick 'em up there one by one
make a constellation that reminds me of home

And there's so many ways to fade across a sea
paddling a boat or swimming underneath

Forget how to dream that's what she said
standin' on the corner of her soapbox ledge
and they were so cinematic the words that she spoke
they burned on the page right up into smoke
but you can go anywhere when you're somebody else
as the panic set in that's what I told myself

There's so many ways to fade across a sea
paddling a boat or swimming underneath
and I have an island under my feet lifting me up right before I sink

There's little signs of life everywhere
that's what he screamed waving his arms in the air
and then he fell to his knees he ceased to breathe
someone called a doctor another called a priest
but his aries heart it failed to start
but people gathered round just to say they did their part

And there's so many ways to fade across a sea
paddling a boat or swimming underneath
and I have an island under my feet lifting me up right before I sink
