de Amsterdamse grafische school, de kelder.
De plek voor breakdance en electric boogie
en de rest van de school stond te kijken in een hoekie.
Sommigen begonnen toen te rappen in die tijd,
en de hiphop cultuur werd vet verspreid.
En toen het in '85 echt begon,
elke zaterdagavond naar Akhneton.
Want discotheken konden mijn interesse niet wekken,
ik ging liever Amsterdamse pioniers uitchecken.
Zoals the Beatmasters en the Smallboys,
the Charming-crew, LTH en Rude Boy.
Damn, die shit was underground,
maar in de states was rap al all-around.
Dus wij meteen vertrekken om de boel uit te checken,
in Amerika en het gevoel was lekker.
Terug in Nederland nu alweer een jaar later,
iedereen rapte en ik kon het niet laten,
Om ook funkie shit in het Engels te gaan bassen,
samen met DJ-Prof het was klasse.
We kickten de Freaky-Freaky-Free-Style shit
en droomden stiekum van een dikke vette hit.
1988 kwam reeds,
en ik weer met m'n Engelse raps naar de States.
Ik liet ze horen naar wat rappers in klompen / Compton,
en vroeg er om wat ze er eerlijk van vonden.
Ze zeiden:
"Man, man I kinda like that shit,
but in the U.S. of A. you'll never make a hit.
You can't hide where you coming from ma man,
so kick your own shit back in Amsterdam."
Mmm ja, en ik dacht, ze hebben gelijk,
ik blijf een boerenkoolvreter uit een Amsterdamse wijk.
Maar aangezien ik daar nog altijd trots op ben geweest,
ging ik in '89 te keer als een beest.
En begon hardcore in de Nederlandse taal -- Wat een wack idee --
schijt aan jullie allemaal!
Ik probeer wat te creeeren, maar je noemt me klerelijer,
Maar ik ben een creatieve, zeg maar creatyfuslijer.
En maak me blijer,
want elke reactie is voor mij een postieve, lijer!
Het was een moeilijke tijd maar we gingen d'r voor,
en in 92 brak onze shit echt door.
En dan de stap naar nu,
je hoort gewoon te veel neppe rappers met een te laag IQ.
Nou komt iedereen met een pop of met een crossover band,
maar ik weet wel wie van hun de old school kent.
Want zet je zo'n rapper op een kale hiphop beat,
zonder band om zich te schuilen, dan vloeit die sukkel niet.
Als zo'n rapper dat nou vroeger had geflikt,
dan werd ie zeker zwaar gedisd en het toneel weer afgekicked.
En dat is hoe het voor mij bleef en hoe ik leef,
omdat ik jou het liefst de pure hiphop geef.
Dus bezoek geen hardcore hiphop nacht,
als jij een hele vokking band met een show verwacht.
Want zo is het bij ons echt nooit geweest,
geef mij een beat, een mic en BOOM, 't is feest,
Ik word moe van die nieuwe school binken,
die mij komen vertellen hoe hiphop moet klinken.
Of ze staan te praten van dat ze ons haten,
Ey, als je nadacht dan zou je het wel laten.
De vraag inderdaad is of het terechte haat is,
stop je bullshit voordat het te laat is.
Want ook dit hoort bij het gevoel,
in de ouderwetse battle weet je wel wat ik bedoel, troel.
Jij kan het gewoon niet uitstaan,
dat Nederhop zo vet is aan gaan slaan.
En ook al vindt je mijn shit vaak te hard,
al die Nederlandse teksten komen recht uit m'n hart.
Want soms voel ik mij geirriteerd,
soms voel ik mij aggressief,
soms voel ik mij gewoon prima,
soms voel ik mij depressief,
soms voel ik zelfs helemaal niets,

z'n old school gevoel, is dat zeker omdat jij het old school
gevoel niet begrijpt en als jij het niet begrijpt betekend dat
niet dat het allemaal maar onzin is. En als sommige nieuwkomers
zich gefokt voelen door deze teksten dan werd het misschien wel
tijd dat je een keertje goed gefokt werd. En voor de rest, het
maak geen reet uit of je nou een of vijftien jaar met hiphop bezig
bent, het gaat om hoe je er mee bezig bent.
