They Don't Play George Jones On MTV

Daddy used to have it made
He knew every song to play —
"Cryin' time", "I'll Walk the Line", and good old "Clifton Clower"
Always in demand,
People loved his little band
When they'd pick the daylights out of "Wildwood Flower"
Though he never was a star,
It never took Pop quite that far,
He still dreamed of Nashville, Tennessee
Somewhere something passed him by
No one told him why
They don't play George Jones on MTV
He's still out there
Low and lonely after midnight
When it's down to two or three
When there's country in your soul,
It won't come out rock & roll
But, they don't play George Jones on MTV
He's still got that old guitar
In the back seat of his car,
Waiting for some chance to play for free
Pumping gas don't really pay,
But, there ain't much else to do these days
‘Cause they don't play George Jones on MTV
He's still out there
Low and lonely after midnight
When it's down to two or three
When there's country in your soul,
It won't come out rock & roll
But, they don't play George Jones on MTV
