Jag har då aldrig nånsin sett på maken! Hon kom och ställde sig helt tätt intill men innan jag hann tänka rätt på saken så fick jag plötsligt se två flickor till. De skrattade och jazzade på ängen och sjöng : Oh, happy days are here again! Sen högg de mej och ropte: Opp ur sängen! Jag tappa mina fikonlöv i svängen, och flickorna försvann bland skogens trän.
På aftonen när jag kom ned till staden, då mötte jag dem åter alla tre i vita klänningar på promenaden, de skönaste tre gracer man kan se. Den ena tog mej genast käckt i handen och sa : I’m leaving on an early train. Där gick vi under palmerna på stranden och pratade och ritade i sanden och sjöng : Oh, happy days are here again!
Jag är från San Fransisco, sa den sköna, och därför klättrar jag så bra i berg! - Jag dansar gärna naken i det gröna, jag älskar så naturens form och färg! Ja, i Amerika har vi friska vanor - här i Europa är man mer mondän! Men, darling, vi ha ändå samma anor! Oh, låt oss aldrig vandra skilda banor! Oh, darling, happy days are here again!
